Dreyer's Ice Cream party coming in October

Barb Simpson, Section B coordinator, entered our neighborhood in a Dreyer's Ice Cream party contest and we won! We will have lots of gallons and flavors of ice cream for everyone to enjoy. Since it's so hot, we are deep freezing the ice cream until October 11. From 4 to 6 p.m., NENA president, Ellen Perkins, will hold an ice cream party in her yard at 3018 N 15th Drive (corner of 15th Drive and Avalon Drive). NENA residents are asked to bring a dessert to share. If you have tables or chairs that NENA can borrow for the party, please contact Mike Sanders at mnsgamnsga@aol.com.

The following weekend, October 18 will be the Neighborhood Block Sale. Details will follow.

Pass the ice cream information along to your neighbors and mark your calendars! Hope to see you there.

NENA is no longer in the flood zone!!!

Please call the following number and they will check on the status of your house. When I called the woman I spoke to made it sound like our entire neighborhood is out of the flood zone now, so this means GREAT savings!!! They will ask for your fax number or address to mail you the information that you will need to send to your mortgage company and insurance company to have it removed. The number is 602-262-4960.

Several people have had issues with their insurance companies denying the cancellation of the flood policy as they are seeing a September 2005 date on the paperwork that we are sending them. You may need to go to the FEMA website and print off their information to provide your insurance company. The website to go to is  http://msc.fema.gov/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/FemaWelcomeView?storeId=10
001&catalogId=10001&langId=-1

Click on the LOMR (Letter of Map Revision) number LOMC 07-09-1713P-040051 01/14/2008 as this is for our neighborhood. Print it off and provide it to the insurance company. So far this has satisfied the insurance companies. Please let Lisa Poulin know if you have any further issues at poulin03@cox.net.

VEHICLE VANDALISM - Smashed Windows: June 9th, various locations throughout NENA - cars had windows smashed. Locations reported to me included: south side of Earll Drive between 18th and 16th avenues and on the south side Earll between 18th and 19th Avenue. Police were contacted and reports taken. VEHICLE VANDALISM - Metal Theft: 3021 N.18th Avenue/Earll - Tuesday, June 3rd, at approximately 6:00 p.m., a maroon pickup truck parked next to a resident's pickup t parked on the street in front of their house. There were two white males in the truck. One of them cut out the catalytic converter from the resident's truck. Another neighbor came upon them just as they finished the job. They threw the part in the back of their truck and sped north to Earll and then west toward 19th Avenue. The rear license plate had been covered and they were able to get away. Description: 2 white males, 25-40 yrs., older pick up truck with maroon stripe on side. Police were contacted and a report taken. This appears to be a new crime trend involving metal thefts. Criminals look for trucks that are higher off the ground for easier access as was the pickup truck in this case.

The following information was provided by NENA resident, Barb Simpson: At approximately 3:20 PM today (Friday, May 16), I witnessed a mailbox thief on Flower Circle North. A male driver, in his early to mid-20s, positioned his car in the center of Flower Circle N heading west between my house at 1614 and next door to the east at 1618. Then he backed in hapharzardly to parallel park along the curb in front of Daryl and Sandy's house at 1605? or 1607?. He got out of the car to go up to their door and seconds later returned to his car, a new model black 2-door sedan car (Toyota I think, with a temp plate on rear--I'm clear on that), where he immediately pulled into the circular driveway at Gary and Kristi's house at1618. He was still facing west, when a female in her early 20s, exited the same car from the passenger's side. She went up to the free standing mailbox, put something in and simultaneously took something out, (flag was raised) and off the car went around the circle to exit around Flower to the west by June and Ellis's. I alerted Gary, and the police, and tried to call several neighbors. Found out Susie Thompson withnessed same thing. Unfortuneately I couldn't provide a clear description of the individuals (except the male was Hispanic and female was White, both slim) Police arrived and interviewed us. DO NOT put any outgoing mail on your clip or in your box (mail of the day had not arrived), especially outgoing bills with checks or account numbers! This couple is very brazen. They could be scoping the neighborhood for other opportunities such as incoming mail, account numbers, and government checks. They replaced the mail stolen from Gary with a stash of junk mail with yet another address on it. Please call Crime Stop immediately if you see this car or anything else going on out of the ordinary at 602-262-6151.

NENA residents living at the corner of 18th Avenue and Avalon reported that culprits shot out their car window using a BB gun. When the homeowner left this morning to drive her child to school, she observed four more vehicles along 18th Avenue (northbound) -- all with their windows shot out. There was also a pile of glass where a vehicle had been parked on 18th Avenue across Osborn next to St. Gregory's Church. The resident called Crime Stop and was waiting to file a report.
